Ude-garami uses a figure-four grip to control the shoulder and rotate uke's bent arm.
How to recognize it
Recognize a roughly right-angled elbow, a secured wrist, and tori gripping their own forearm beneath uke's upper arm.
Don't mix it up
Headward and legward variants
Ude-garami bends the arm toward the head. Kuzure-ude-garami bends it toward the legs, while both keep the shoulder stable.
