Learn the cross arm lock from controlled top and bottom entries.

Understand the technique
is a cross arm lock within . controls extended arm between the thighs, stabilizes the shoulder and wrist line, and applies gradual elbow pressure with the hips.
How it works
Sit close and control the shoulder
Move beside uke with one leg across the head line and the other controlling the torso. Sit as close as possible, keep the knees together, and prevent the shoulder from turning toward freedom.
Align the elbow before pressure
Secure the wrist so the thumb and elbow line stay controlled over the hips. Raise the hips gradually only after the position is stable, and release immediately when uke taps, calls out, or the referee calls .
Common mistakes
Pulling before the position is stable
Separating the knees or leaning away loses shoulder control and encourages sudden force. Rebuild the close seat, knee pressure, and wrist line before applying any extension.
First learning focus
First make the position stable with no extension pressure. Practice recognizing the tap and release response before adding a small, gradual hip action.
