Recognize the sleeve grip that changes the lifting hand.

How it works

Movement and direction

For right , holds right sleeve with the left hand and the left sleeve with the right hand. Tori lifts through the right-hand sleeve grip while drawing Uke forward, then turns the hips across Uke’s front. The connected sleeve action guides Uke over the hip; mirror on the left. Compare , where the lifting hand normally holds the lapel. Keep the sleeve-controlled arm free to follow the turn without forcing the elbow or shoulder.
