Understand the technique

Compare a forward-corner side sacrifice with a rear sacrifice.

How it works

Movement and direction

For right , leads toward Uke’s right front corner. Tori extends the left leg diagonally out and falls onto the left side while the hands guide Uke over Tori’s left shoulder. Mirror on the left. There is no sole pressing into the abdomen as in : the forward-corner pull and side sacrifice produce the rotation. Keep the shoulder rolling path open and never use the head as a pivot.

Common mistakes

Common error

Sitting straight back while leaving Uke balanced removes the intended forward-corner rotation.
