Judo technique
O-uchi-gari
Compare the major inner reap with its sweeping variation.

Understand the technique
is a major inner reap. enters between legs, circles behind a supporting leg, and drives the hips and torso forward as the leg removes uke's base.
How it works
Enter close between the feet
Step into the open inside line and bring the support foot close enough to keep the hips connected to uke. The upper body begins taking uke backward before the reaping circle completes.
Circle behind the support
Place the reaping leg behind uke's support and make a broad circular action while the torso drives forward. The reap and body pressure complete together rather than as a separate kick.
Common mistakes
Reaping without body direction
A leg circle by itself cannot move a stable upper body and often becomes an unsafe kick. Establish close posture and backward direction before removing the support.
First learning focus
First feel the support foot enter close and the torso carry uke backward. Add the circular reap only when both actions stay connected.
