Understand the technique

Recognize the load across both shoulders.

How it works

Movement and direction

In the right-sided version of , draws forward through sleeve control, lowers beneath Uke and supports the inside of Uke’s right thigh with the right arm. Tori lifts Uke across both shoulders and directs the wheel toward Tori’s left front corner. Mirror on the left. Keep Uke supported and guide the landing without head or neck impact. The illustration shows a kneeling variation. The traditional thigh hold is not permitted in current IJF standing competition; leg-free contest variations require a different entry.

Common mistakes

Common error

Letting Uke slide unsupported off the shoulders loses control of the landing.
